Vol. 434 No. 9

Written Answers. - Inishmore (Galway) Public Water Supply).

Robert Molloy

Question:

126 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the situation that has again arisen on Inishmore, Aran Islands, County Galway, due to the lack of an adequate public water supply; if he will give his approval for the construction of additional storage tanks to supplement the water supply on the island; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

166 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the proposed new water reservoir on Inishmore, Aran Islands, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 126 and 166 together.

I have recently approved preliminary report proposals for the construction of a reservoir and ancillary works on Inishmore. These works are an advance section of a major plan by Galway County Council to tackle the overall water supply and storage needs of the island. The county council has been requested to prepare the necessary contract documents as quickly as possible.
