Vol. 435 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion.

Frank Crowley

Question:

22 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the role he expects the new County Enterprise Boards to play in tourism promotion in their functional area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The House will be aware that my colleague, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, announced details of the membership and organisation of the County Enterprise Boards on 27th September, 1993. These new boards will complement the work of existing State agencies and will primarily focus their attention on the development of local enterprise initiatives and job creation. Essentially the boards will have a multi-sectoral brief and it is envisaged that tourism will feature prominently in this area because of its potential to expand and create substantial and sustainable employment.
