Vol. 435 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tourism Marketing.

Avril Doyle

Question:

45 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he has established product development companies to market branded activity holidays in Ireland; if so, the number that have been established to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bord Fáilte has responsibility for tourism marketing and the establishment of product development companies is therefore a matter for the board. In this regard, the board has made considerable progress in establishing produce development groups in a number of niche product areas. Commercial operators have been encouraged to come together and pool part of their promotional resources in order to market in a co-operative way the following products: golf, walking, language learning, sailing, gardens, equestian holidays, rural tourism, outdoor pursuits centres, diving centres, and heritage centres.

Limited companies have been set up in respect of three product areas: golf; heritage; language learning.

Efforts are being made in a number of other product areas to encourage the formation of further product marketing groups.
