Vol. 435 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Ivan Yates

Question:

58 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Social Welfare if supplementary welfare allowance payments will be continued for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford in view of the fact that he has no income and the payments have been discontinued.

I understand from the South Eastern Health Board, that the person in question had been in receipt of a basic supplementary welfare allowance payment since 1991. Earlier this year the Board requested him to furnish certain information in support of his claim to supplementary welfare allowance. He failed to do so within a specified time and the board ceased payment of supplementary welfare allowance.

The person concerned has appealed the decision of the board. I understand that the decision of the appeals officer in the matter will be conveyed to him shortly.
