Question:64 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Justice the total amount of EC funding allocated in the National Development Plan 1994-1999 to her Department for various projects.

A total of £1 million has been allocated to my Department by the National Development Plan, 1994-1999, for the training of young ex-offenders and adult ex-offenders who are long term unemployed. In addition, my Department is participating on the Policy Committee on Local Development where the allocation of EC funds for, inter alia, measures and actions targeted at the socially excluded and high risk youth, are being considered.
My Department is also co-financing a training and education project for women offenders which qualifies for support under the Community Initiative, NOW (New Opportunities for Woman).
A global provision only has been included in the Plan for Community Initiatives and definitive allocations of this provision between specific measures have yet to be made.
