Vol. 435 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roscommon Road Improvements.

John Connor

Question:

67 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give his priorities in relation to improvement and upgrading of the N5 National Primary Road from Tarmonbarry to Carracastle in County Roscommon; if it is planned to have the complete County Roscommon stretch brought up to standard by the end of 1999; when bypasses will be constructed around Strokestown and Ballaghaderreen; and if bypasses will be constructed around villages such as Tulsk, Ballinagare and Frenchpark.

The question of carrying out major improvement works on this section of the N5, and the priority to be given to them, are being considered in the preparation of the transport operational programme under the National Development Plan. The funding of other improvement works on the section will be considered in determining the annual road grant allocations.

An outline proposal has been submitted by Roscommon County Council for the provision of a by-pass of Ballaghadereen but no proposals have been received for the provision of by-passes at the other locations referred to.
