Vol. 435 No. 2

Written Answers. - Provision of Clinics.

Ivor Callely

Question:

93 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the number and location of satellite clinics for alcohol and drug abusers and AIDS/HIV patients; if there are any noticeable difficulties with such satellite clinics; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are four satellite clinics in operation at present which cater for drug abusers and HIV/AIDS patients. There are no such clinics available for the treatment of alcohol abuse. The clinics are located as follows: Baggot Street Community Hospital; "Ashling", Ballyfermot; City Clinic, Amiens Street; The Drug Treatment Centre, Pearse Street.

There have been some difficulties with the Baggot Street Clinic because of the number of patients attending.

These problems are being tackled by the Eastern Health Board and patients have been transferred to other locations. This process is continuing and the objective is to ensure that each satellite clinic will provide services for patients from its own catchment area.
