Vol. 435 No. 3

Written Answers. - Attendance of Teachers at Local Authority Meetings.

Paul Bradford

Question:

127 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if, in view of correspondence concerning the attendance of teachers at local authority meetings (details supplied) she will give her views on this matter.

As I indicated in my recent letter to the Deputy my Department does not object to teachers who are members of local authorities being granted leave of absence by a vocational education committee or Board of Management to attend meetings of the local authority subject to certain conditions being fulfilled. One of these conditions is that satisfactory arrangements are made, at no additional cost to the Department, for the conduct of the teacher's classes and other duties during the absence.

I have no plans at present to alter the conditions.
