Vol. 435 No. 3

Written Answers. - Refugee Status Appeals.

Alan Shatter

Question:

49 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice the action, if any, taken to date to implement the promise made on 11 May 1993, that she would appoint immediately a retired member of the Judiciary to act as a competent authority to deal with appeals against refusals to grant recognition of refugee status.

I am pleased to inform the House that Judge Peter O'Malley, former President of the Circuit Court, has accepted my invitation to act as the appropriate competent authority to deal with such appeals.
