Question:73 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence the cost to his Department of extra security arising from the violence from the Northern Ireland crisis from the year 1969 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In so far as the Department of Defence is concerned the estimated extra security costs attributable to the Northern Ireland situation since 1969 is £1.6 billion.
