Vol. 435 No. 3

Written Answers. - Wexford Heritage Grant Application.

Question:

105 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the progress to date and likely outcome of an application by St. Mogue's Church, Fethard-on-Sea, New Ross, County Wexford, for grant assistance from the National Heritage Council; if the council is currently engaged in a review of its support for church buildings; if so, when this review will be completed; when it will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that an application by St. Mogue's Church Fethard-on-Sea, New Ross, County Wexford was considered at an architecture committee meeting of the National Heritage Council on 14 September 1993. An inspection visit has been arranged following which a recommendation will be submitted to the National Heritage Council for consideration.

The council is currently engaged in a review of its support for church buildings in consultation with the property committee of the Representative Church Body and the advisory committee on sacred art and architecture. As this review is at a very early stage it is not possible at this point to say when it will be completed.
