Vol. 435 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - County Louth Court Hearing.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

5 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the delay in the court hearing and consequent detention of a person (details supplied) in County Louth; if he will make immediate representations to the British authorities to ensure that there is no further undue delay on the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers involving the arrest and detention of an Irish person in Britain. A date has not so far been set for the trial because of a delay in preparation of the evidence. However, I understand that it is now expected that the trial will take place in a matter of weeks. The Embassy in London will continue to monitor the case.
