Vol. 435 No. 10

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of each Member in each case: (1) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the penal financial consequences for a farmer (details supplies) who, due to illness, failed to inform the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry of the death of an animal within the correct time limit, thereby losing almost £3,000 in beef premia; (2) Deputy Crawford — the difficulties being experienced by the meat industry in competing with live export trade in relation to carcase weight limit regulations and the difference in the value of export refunds for live and dead cattle; (3) Deputy Quill — the delay in payment of salaries to approximately 700 substitute teachers in the primary sector; (4) Deputy Deenihan — the action to be taken following the recent announcement by Neodata Services Incorporated that it intends to phase out operations in Listowel, Newcastlewest, Kilmallock and Limerick, resulting in the potential loss of 390 jobs; (5) Deputy Finucane — the announcement by Neodata Services Incorporated that job losses will arise from March 1994 unless new business is provided; and the assistance, if any, it is intended to provide in order to avert these losses; (6) Deputy Frances Fitzgerald — the lack of suitable secure facilities for young children appearing before the courts; and (7) Deputy Deasy — the need to make funds available to Waterford County Council to repair roads which were severely damaged as a result of heavy rain on Friday, 8 October 1993, and in particular for the repair of the main Dungarvan/Clonmel Road at Bally-macarbery, damage to which is estimated at £70,000.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputies Finucane, Crawford, Frances Fitzgerald and Quill.
