Vol. 437 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hip Replacement Operation.

Jim Higgins

Question:

162 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for an urgent hip replacement operation.

This patient is on the in-patient waiting list for admission to Merlin Park Regional Hospital for orthopaedic treatment. The Western Health Board has indicated that it expects to be in a position to call this patient for surgery in approximately three to four months time.

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of admissions to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and each case is assessed to determine its medical priority. Should any patient be concerned about their medical condition, they should return to their general practitioner who would be in the best position to emphasise the urgency of the case directly to the consultant concerned.
