163 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has to provide an old people's home at Achill Sound, Westport, County Mayo; the position regarding sanction for the purchase of a suitable site; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The provision of a community nursing unit for the elderly in Achill Sound, County Mayo is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. I understand that the board are presently making arrangements to determine the suitability of a possible site. However, before a decision to build the unit is made, account must be taken of competing demands for capital funding from all over the country and indeed the internal priorities of the Western Health Board.
