Vol. 437 No. 2

Written Answers. - Child Care Facilities.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

21 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to honour EC commitments and those in the National Development Plan, 1994 to 1999, in relation to improve childcare facilities in the workplace.

Responsibility for childcare provision arises in the context of various programmes which are supported by various Ministers.

As Minister for Equality and Law Reform I will have a role to play in contributing to the development of Government policy on childcare. The commitments given in the National Development Plan will be followed up and further developed, in the light of the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women and the report of the Working Party on Child Care for Working Parents which is expected in January, 1994.

I will also consult with my colleagues, regarding action needed to ensure improved childcare facilities for working parents both at the workplace, and in the community, as appropriate.
