Vol. 437 No. 3

Written Answers. - Convention on Architectural Heritage.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

27 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht when he intends to ensure that Ireland ratifies the Convention on the Protection of Architectural Heritage of Europe.

The Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Architectural Heritage of Europe was signed by Ireland in Granada, Spain, on 3 October 1985. To date, 20 countries out of a total of 33 have ratified or acceded to the convention. I am concerned that international conventions of this kind should be ratified by this country as quickly as possible. My Department will be actively pursuing this in consultation with the other Departments involved.
