Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

John Bruton

Question:

179 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if the European Union Commission has yet approved of the inclusion in Ireland's National Development Plan, 1994-1999, of a hospital and a peat-fired electricity generating station; and if the Commission has indicated that these investments satisfy the economic criteria required for inclusion in this plan and for EC assistance.

The National Development Plan 1994-1999 sets out the Government's investment proposals for the areas covered by the EU Structural and Cohesion Funds. The plan is currently being discussed with the European Commission with a view to agreeing a Community Support Framework. No agreement has been reached as yet on the elements that will be included in the Community Support Framework. We have not received to date the Commission's formal view on what investments should be included.
