Question:

271 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice if she intends to provide canteen facilities at the Garda Station, Clonmel, County Tipperary.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 269, 270 and 271 together.

I am advised by the Garda authorities that internal painting works were carried out at Clonmel District Headquarters in December, 1991 and January 1992 at a cost of £5,600. At the same time £11,796 was expended on renovation works. The question of having external painting carried out this year will be kept under review in the context of the needs of other stations in the Tipperary Division.

I am informed that canteen facilities already exist at Clonmel station but that in view of their present size and location in the station, local Garda management are considering a number of options to improve them.

In so far as the reception area is concerned, the Garda authorities have no request on hands for additional facilities. Local Garda management are satisfied that there are adequate interview room facilities in the station to carry out confidential interviews with members of the public.
