Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Trade Union Dues.

Enda Kenny

Question:

299 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if it is necessary for participants in social welfare schemes to have to pay weekly trade union dues; and if he will issue a clarifying statement on this matter.

Payment of weekly trade union dues is not necessary for participants on the Social Employment Scheme. Membership of a trade union is entirely voluntary and is a matter for individual participants.

Neither is there an expectation or obligation on community sponsors of projects to arrange for union membership.
