Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - European Road Traffic Management Network.

John Bruton

Question:

306 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment his views on the proposal contained in the White Paper of the Commission of the European Communities to the effect that a European road traffic management network should be operated on a European rather than a national basis; and if Ireland will be supporting this proposal.

This recommendation is one of a series of measures to ensure the diffusion of best practice and development of European information and communications technology. The development and implementation of advanced road computerised information and traffic management systems has been identified as necessary to the successful operation of the Trans European Road Network. My Department and the National Roads Authority are participating in a number of working groups in these areas and keeping developments under review.
