Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Transfer of Air Corps Headquarters.

Peter Barry

Question:

344 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of the close liaison necessary between the Naval Service and the Aer-Chór on fishery patrol work and in view of our capacity to launch helicopters from Naval patrol vessels, operating out of Haulbowline, County Cork, it is now deemed necessary to have elements of the Aer-Chór permanently stationed in Cork; if he has further examined the feasibility of having the Aer-Chór transfer their headquarters to Cork in view of the increased co-ordinated work with the Naval Service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no proposals at the present time to move any section of the Air Corps to Cork. I am satisfied that, in the context of the current scale of Air Corps operations, the existing arrangements are satisfactory.
