Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Wexford Grain Growers.

Ivan Yates

Question:

424 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the severe losses of grain growers in County Wexford arising out of the poor harvest in 1993; if he will consider the provision of any low interest finance for such growers who have been certified by Teagasc as having such losses in order that they remain in business; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Losses due to unfavourable weather conditions must be regarded as a normal commercial risk associated with cereal production. In the circumstances, I have no proposals to provide low interest finance or losses associated with the unfavourable weather conditions.
