Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Board Expenditure.

John Bruton

Question:

535 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health the balances of grants due from his Department to the North-Eastern Health Board in respect of approved expenditure.

As at 31 December 1993, the balance of grant due to the North-Eastern Health Board was £6,181,712. Of this sum, £2,743,552 is the normal retention in respect of 1993, and is a function of the funding arrangements pertaining to health boards. The remaining balance is caused by over-expenditure in the board between 1984 and 1989 which was not funded by the Exchequer. These amounts will be incorporated in the refinancing package which I have recently agreed with my colleague, the Minister for Finance, and which will allow the health board debts to be more appropriately structured.
