537 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health whether the Report on Alcoholism by the Advisory Council on Health Promotion has been submitted to Government yet; if so, if any decision has been made about publishing it; and if he intends to issue a White Paper on the proposals in the report.
538 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health if officials in his Department are in consultation with members of the drinks industry, or are members of a policy committee for reform of the laws and practices in the sale of alcohol.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 537 and 538 together.
Officials in my Department have been involved for some time in the drafting of a comprehensive national alcohol policy. This has involved consultation with the widest possible range of interests including the alcohol industry. The final draft of the report is almost complete and I look forward to receiving it within the coming weeks.
