Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Home School Liaison Teacher Appointment.

Austin Deasy

Question:

563 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education if she will allow the appointment of home-school liaison teacher to Mount Sion Christian Brothers Secondary School.

Additional teaching posts were allocated to a number of post-primary schools in disadvantaged areas in the 1990-91 and 1991-92 school years.

The duties suggested for the holder of the additional post by my Department included home-school liaison. The posts were allocated on the basis of criteria agreed between representatives of the school authorities, parents, teachers and my Department. The schools were ranked in accordance with these criteria and the posts were allocated to schools which were ranked highest. Mount Sion Christian Brothers' School was not high enough in the ranking order to qualify for one of these posts. The allocation of an additional post to this school will be considered in the context of the possible future extension of the relevant scheme.
