Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Teaching of Religion.

Pat Upton

Question:

600 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education if the hours spent by primary teachers teaching religion are included in the total working hours of primary teachers as presented by her Department to UNESCO or OECD.

Pat Upton

Question:

601 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education if primary teachers are paid by the State for the teaching of religion.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 600 and 601 together.

Religious instruction forms part of the primary school curriculum and, as such, is part of the teacher's normal teaching duties.

If the Deputy would indicate the particular UNESCO or OECD data to which he refers, my Department will be pleased to communicate to him the basis on which the data was compiled.
