Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Wexford School Teacher Numbers.

Ivan Yates

Question:

605 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education if a school (details supplied) in County Wexford will be able to retain their national school teacher numbers at their present level for 1994.

The staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. In the case of Réalt na Mara national school, Kilmore, County Wexford, there were 407 pupils enrolled on 30 September, 1992, which warrants a staff of principal plus 13 assistants for the 1993-94 school year. The school also has the services of a full-time remedial teacher.

It is too early to predict what the staffing arrangements for the 1994-95 school year will be, as discussions between my Department, the managerial authorities and the INTO have not yet taken place. Under the current staffing schedule an enrolment of 405 is required to retain the post of 13th assistant. However, I understand that there were 399 pupils enrolled in the school on 30 September, 1993.

My Department will be in touch with the board of management of the school in relation to its staffing for 1994-95 as soon as the arrangements are known.
