612 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the arrangements, if any, she is making for proper inservice training for the transition year, vocational leaving certificate and applied leaving certificate programmes; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
In the case of transition year, I have arranged for an in-career development programme to be delivered at regional level by a team of experienced teachers who have been trained specifically for the task. The programme involves briefing the whole staff of schools offering transition year and includes two days of in-career development at local level for groups of 4/5 teachers from each school.
With regard to the Leaving Certificate vocational programme and the Leaving Certificate applied programme, I propose to put in place a comprehensive training programme of in-career development for the teachers involved.
