Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cloughduv (Cork) School.

Michael Creed

Question:

58 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the proposed new national school for Cloughduv, County Cork; and if she intends to honour an agreement entered into by her Department and the Board of Management in 1990 in connection with the local contribution.

A contract for the building of the proposed new school at Cloughduv, County Cork will be placed as soon as the balance of the local contribution is forwarded to my Department. In this regard, the position is that the rate of 15 per cent being sought is fully in line with the standard funding arrangement which provides for a capital grant to a maximum of 85 per cent of the approved cost. The only exception to this is in the case of schools classified as disadvantaged where a maximum grant of 95 per cent applies.

This funding arrangement was introduced in 1991 and applies to all projects, including Cloughduv, for which a grant was not previously formally sanctioned.

No grant-aid is available in respect of general purposes rooms. Accordingly the full cost of the general purposes room for Cloughduv is a local liability.
