Question:

131 Ms O'Donnell asked the Taoiseach the boards, committees, companies or other bodies under the auspices of his Department; and, in each case, whether the chairperson is male or female, the number of other members of the boards who are female and male and whether their chief executive or holder of an equivalent position is male or female.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 130 and 131 together.

The Law Reform Commission is the only statutory body which comes under the aegis of my Department. It was established under the Law Reform Commission Act, 1975. As regards the Central Statistics Office, the National Statistics Board will be established on a statutory basis when the Statistics Act, 1993 comes into operation.

The other information requested by the Deputy regarding the gender of the chairpersons, of board members and chief executives is given in a schedule which will be circulated with the Official Report.

I would like to assure the Deputy that the gender imbalance will be addressed in line with the committment in the Programme for Government to achieving a minimum of 40 per cent of both men and women among direct Government nominees to State boards and other bodies.
