Question:

159 Mr. Cox asked the Minister for Finance the amount of extra money that was paid under the heading of public service pay and pensions in the course of the calendar year 1993; if he will give a detailed breakdown of such additional expenditure; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy is set out in a tabular statement which I intend to circulate with this reply.

(1) The Exchequer Pay and Pensions Bill covers the actual cost to the Exchequer of the pay and pensions of civil servants, the Permanent Defence Forces, gardai and teachers and varying amounts are included for pay in grants to health boards and other health agencies, non-commercial state-sponsored bodies and third-level colleges. The pay of Local Authority staff is not included in the Exchequer Pay and Pensions Bill.

160 Mr. Cox asked the Minister for Finance the amount of extra money in respect of which specific elements of public sector pay and pensions is due to be paid in the calendar year 1994, as a carry-over from the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, and on a no policy change basis.

The increase in the 1994 Exchequer Pay and Pensions Bill attributable to the carry-over costs of pay increases under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress is accounted for as follows:
