Vol. 438 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pay Related Social Insurance.

Ivan Yates

Question:

30 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance if PRSI receipts will be included in future Exchequer returns as part of Tax Revenue and for all statistical purposes included in overall tax statistics; and the reason this has not been the practice to date.

I have no plans to include receipts from Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) contributions in future Exchequer returns as part of tax revenue. PRSI contributions are paid into the Social Insurance Fund in accordance with the provisions of social welfare legislation. These contributions form the principal statutory income of the fund and are used to finance the payment of social welfare benefits.
