Vol. 438 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Spending.

Ivan Yates

Question:

47 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance the annual percentage increase in gross current public spending, excluding debt repayments and tax revenue, for each year since 1990.

For the purposes of this reply, the details shown for current public spending include the gross cost of non-capital supply services and the non-debt element of Central Fund Services. The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

Current Expenditure

Year

Increase over previous year

%

1990

6.4

1991

10.5

1992

9.6

1993

8.8

1994

4.2

Expenditure on non-capital supply services is normally shown on a net basis. Gross expenditure on such services includes PRSI receipts and other appropriations-in-aid. The increases given for the years 1993 and 1994 reflect the provisional outturn for 1993 and estimate for 1994 for non-capital supply services contained in the pre-Budget 1994 Abridged Estimates Volume.
The 1994 Revised Estimates Volume, which will be published in the spring, will reflect budget day changes.
