Vol. 438 No. 1

Written Answers. - Paymaster General's Office Computerisation.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

57 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance whether all sections of the Paymaster General's Office, in particular, the Teachers Pension Section are fully computerised; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

All sections of the Paymaster General's Office are computerised to enable them to carry out their functions in an efficient and cost effective manner. The PMG acts as a paying agent for the Department of Education in relation to the payment of pensions to approximately 9,000 retired teachers, including dependants. It uses the same computer system to effect payment as is used extensively for salary payments throughout the Civil Service.
