68 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo working in a Garda station in County Mayo who passed the Civil Service typing examination on 23 March 1987, and who is doing word processing duties is not being paid the appropriate allowance in respect of word processing work.
The officer concerned does not qualify for a word processing allowance because she was recruited as a clerical assistant for clerical duties. She will have to be formally regarded as a typist by the Civil Service Commission before the allowance can be paid. There is no record in the Civil Service Commission or in my Department that she passed a typing test set by the Commission and it will be necessary for her to undergo such a test before the Commission can consider her application for recertification as a typist. I understand that the next typing test to be run by the Commission is scheduled for March 1994 and the officer concerned will be invited to take this test.
