Vol. 438 No. 1

Written Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

James Leonard

Question:

77 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the number of group water schemes which are now obliged to install water treatment systems and the cost to individual scheme design, his Department will allow a standard design.

Due to the quality variation between sources of water supply and the differing properties of ground and surface waters in different areas, it would not be practicable to specify a standard design for water treatment facilities. My Department recognises, however, the importance of water quality measures appropriate to individual group scheme needs and has complied an information leaflet for this purpose on the operation and maintenance of privately sourced group water schemes.
