Vol. 438 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Care Worker Appointment.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

142 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application for funding for the appointment of an additional child care worker to Benincasa Special School, Blackrock, County Dublin; if so, when she received the application; and if she will provide the necessary funds to enable the appointment to be made.

An application for a Child Care Assistant post was received from Benincasa Special School, in July 1992. It was indicated to the school at the time that, due to the embargo on the filling of vacancies in the public service, a post could not be sanctioned.

I intend to approve the appointment of an additional 50 child care assistant posts with effect from September 1994. My Department is currently assessing needs in this area to ensure that the posts are allocated to best effect.

The needs of Benincasa Special School will be considered in this context.
