Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Shatter — the anomalous eligibility criteria for men and women applying to join the Garda Síochána; (2) Deputy Durkan — the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 56 of 4 November 1993, in relation to the importation of a motor vehicle and subsequent imposition of duty; (3) Deputy Kirk — the findings of a recent study on the number of birth defects among the children of former Dundalk schoolgirls in the 1950s; (4) Deputy McCormack — the serious coastal serosion at Tawin Island, Maree, Oranmore. County Galway, and the consequent damage to farmland; (5) Deputy Gregory — the request of the principal of the Sisters of Charity, Mount Carmel secondary school, Kings Inn Street, Dublin 1, for urgent financial assistance for heating and other essential requirements for the school which serves the disadvantaged north inner city community; and (6) Deputy Flanagan — a recent report on clusters of Down's Syndrome births on the east coast of the State and the need for an investigation into the reasons for these occurrences. The matters raised by Deputies McCormack, Kirk, Flanagan and Gregory have been selected for discussion.
