232 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if she will give details, with respect to each local authority administering the higher education grants scheme, of the number of students in receipt of grants, the number of students in receipt of the maximum grant, and the total amount of money spent on students in each local authority area.
The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the number of students in each local authority area receiving higher education grants and the amount of money paid out on grants by those authorities is set out in the following tabular statement.
The data relating to student numbers is in respect of the 1992-93 academic year while the expenditure data relates to grants paid by the local authorities in the year ending 31/12/92 which were recouped to the local authorities by my Department in 1993.
Data relating to the number of students in receipt of the maximum grant is not readily available in my Department.
