Vol. 438 No. 7

Written Answers. - Knocklyon (Dublin) School.

Alan Shatter

Question:

242 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education whether she will meet with the Knocklyon post primary school committee and the five local Deputies to discuss the construction of Knocklyon community school, Dublin 16, the need for the school in view of the large number of children in the Knocklyon area in need of secondary education in the coming years and the continued growth in the population of Knocklyon.

I have received a request to meet with the local Dáil Deputies to discuss the provision of a post-primary school for Knocklyon. No details have been finalised in this regard.

In view of the protracted history of this particular project and of the major demographic implications of recent and proposed housing developments for Knocklyon and adjoining areas, it is considered that the short and long-term requirements of the area, at post-primary level, need to be assessed in the light of the most recent statistical data available for primary and post-primary levels and for housing and other demographic indicators. The completion of this assessment will enable my Department to decide where the Knocklyon project stands in relation to the post-primary capital programme and to the many other major building projects at present proceeding through the various stages of architectural planning. It is hoped to have this assessment completed as soon as possible.
