Vol. 438 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Michael Creed

Question:

119 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of funds available to his Department from the national lottery; the way in which these funds are used; and the way in which they are allocated.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

122 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Environment if there will be any new funding from the national lottery during 1994.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 119 and 122 together.

A sum of £3.540 million from the national lottery surplus is provided in my Department's Estimate for 1994 for:

—the provision and refurbishment of swimming pools — £1.3 million;

—the Local Authority Library service — £1.74 million;

—the provision of communal facilities in voluntary housing projects — £0.5 million.

Proposals under each of these programmes are made by or through local authorities and, following assessment by my Department, decisions on the allocation of grants are made by me in each case.
