Vol. 438 No. 7

Written Answers. - Sheep Quota Application.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

135 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the position in respect of an application for an increase in sheep quota by a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person named applied for ewe premium reserve quota under Category 1A which required that the number of eligible ewes he had in 1991 was less than the number he maintained normally. He does not qualify under this category because he applied for ewe premium for the first time in 1991.

He indicated, in October 1993, that he had acquired land previously used for sheep production by another producer. His application to the reserve is, therefore, now being considered under Category 3. He has already been allocated a quota of 18 premium rights based on his 1991 application for ewe premium.
