Vol. 439 No. 1

Written Answers. - Telephone Charges.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

28 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has received an application from Telecom Éireann for an increase in its charges for leased lines; when he received the application; when he will make a decision on the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Telecom Éireann made a formal application for increases in certain leased line tariffs on 23 June last. The proposals include substantial increases in charges in some instances. The application has been under continuous discussion with Telecom Éireann. It was necessary to obtain key information to ensure that the increases proposed satisfy the conditions in Directives 90/388 EEC and 92/44/EEC. Telecom Éireann recently furnished this information, when it became available. It is being examined in my Department and a decision will not be unduly delayed.
