Question:

137 Ms. F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health the level of financial support to women's refuges nationally and in the Cork area in the years 1992 and 1993.

The level of financial support provided to women's refuges is a matter for decision by the various health boards having regard to the funds available and the competing requirements for other services. The attached table details the level of funding to women's refuges nationally and in the Cork area, for 1992 and 1993.

1992

1993

£

£

National Total

738,773

806,162

Cork area

With the coming on stream of the new Termon Centre the level of funding agreed by the Southern Health Board for women's refuges in the Cork area in 1994 will be £91,500, which is more than double that of the previous year.
