Vol. 440 No. 1

Written Answers. - Second Level School Places.

Paul McGrath

Question:

183 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education if she will publish the Bannon study or studies concerning the provision of second level schools in the north Dublin and South County Meath areas.

In August 1991 consultants were commissioned to assist my Department in a study to determine the need and provision for post primary school places in the Castleknock-Hartstown- Dunboyne areas. The consultants recommended the provision of new schools for Hartstown and Dunboyne. The report of the consultants was confidential to the Department and no agreement was made with them about publication.

In summer 1993, I decided that the case for a second level school in Castleknock should be reviewed to take account of continuing housing developments in the area and the difficulty some pupils were having in obtaining places in a school within a reasonable distance. I have accepted the consultants updated report and its recommendation that a new school should be provided in Castleknock.

Copies of the updated report are available to the local interest groups and public representatives on request from my Department, as provided for in the agreed Terms of Reference of this review.
