69 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice if a taxi plate can be made available to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 who previously had a plate but surrendered it to the carriage office in 1973, and now wishes to return to the taxi business.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are no provisions under the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicle) Regulations to allow for the re-issue of a surrendered public hire vehicle (taxi) licence.
