Theresa Ahearn

Question:

73 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the reason a lone parent aged 21 years does not qualify for the employment incentive scheme and as a result is causing her to lose her prospects of a job as a secretary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 72 and 73 together.

The employment incentive scheme is targeted at the recruitment by employers of persons who are long term unemployed, early school leavers and other disadvantaged persons. The eligibility conditions for the scheme reflect this targeting and only persons who satisfy the specified conditions are considered eligible for the purposes of the scheme.
All FÁS schemes are kept under ongoing review by my Department and will be adapted if and when circumstances demand or allow.
