24 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Environment if he will withdraw the requirement of tax numbers on applications for essential repairs and disabled persons' housing grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
As part of the programme of measures to improve tax administration, the payment of grants by public authorities, including local authorities, is conditional on applicants for grants such as essential repairs and disabled persons grants, furnishing certain details of their tax affairs, including a tax reference number and confirming that, to the best of their knowledge, their tax affairs are in order. I have no proposals to change these requirements in the case of these grants.
