Vol. 441 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbours Statistics.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

66 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine if he will list the harbours around our coast; the authority responsible for each; and the plans, if any, he has to regularise the maintenance of harbours some of which are neglected such as the harbours of Loughshinny and Balbriggan, County Dublin.

There are over 800 fishery, commercial and leisure harbours in the State, the responsibility for which lies with the relevant harbour authorities, local authorities, private concerns or with the Department of the Marine; Transport, Energy and Communications or Finance. To list all the harbours and authorities concerned would involve an inordinate amount of work.

If the Deputy has concerns relating to specific harbours and if he conveys these concerns to me, I will endeavour to have his queries answered.

In relation to the harbours mentioned in the Deputy's question, Loughshinny is the responsibility of Fingal County Council and Balbriggan of the Dublin Port and Docks Board. The Deputy should pursue his concerns in relation to those harbours directly with the relevant responsible authority.
